St. Martin's Lutheran School, in partnership with families, will assist in carrying out the God-given privilege and responsibility of raising children by providing Christian instruction, academic education, and extra curricular activities with the goal of equipping children for God-pleasing and productive lives.

 

History & Governance

kids using computersSt. Martin's Lutheran School was founded in 1963 as a mission of St. Martin's Lutheran Church to its members and to the community. The school has grown from a nursery and kindergarten to include grades one through eight. The School's policies are supervised by the Church Council via the School Board.

The School is administered by a full time Principal, with support from a full time admissions director, two Administrative Assistants and a part time Business Manager. Faculty members include individual classroom teachers, two assistants, art, music, computer, physical education, foreign language and enrichment teachers, and a trained librarian.

No child will be denied admission due to color, race, religion, or national origin.

Programs And Curriculum

The staff of St. Martin's Lutheran School is an enthusiastic, caring, and dedicated group of professionals. Our enrichment teacher provides enrichment programs for students who need additional challenges in the classroom.

Pre-kindergarten

The Pre-Kindergarten Program consists of a five day a week class for children who are four years old by September 1st. There are two sessions each day. The morning session runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The afternoon session is from 12:15 to 3:00 p.m. A teacher and an assisant instruct a class limited to 11 students. The program is designed to provide opportunites for the interaction between children during play as well as directed activities. Emphasis is placed on language development, listening skills, number concepts and physical development. Art, music, computers, religion and Spanish are integral parts of the program.

Elementary School

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten Program is a full day program with a class size of 22 students. A teacher and an assistant provide instruction for the students in phonics-based reading, math, science, and social sudies. The students also learn art, computers, music, physical education, religion and Spanish.

Grades 1-5

kindergarten playThe Primary and Intermediate Programs consist of one self-contained classroom for each grade. Class size is 22 students to one teacher in grades 1-2 and 24 students to one teacher in grades 3-5. Curriculum includes a phonics-based reading program, language arts, math, science, and social studies in the core program with Spanish, religion, art, music, physical education, computers, and library as special programs.

Middle School

The Middle School Program includes grades 6-8. Class size is 24 students. Students rotate classes of English, social studies, math, science, Spanish, religion, art, music, life sports/health, computer and community service requirement. The students may also participate in clubs and the Student Government Association. Extended class time is provided in math and science.

Special Activities

Chapel

All students participate in a weekly interactive Chapel service. We share prayers, songs, and a message from God's Word as part of the Christian Education Program.

Media Center

All students benefit from using the Media Center. Weekly library classes encourage book selection for reading enjoyment, storytelling oral reading, and appreciation of children's literature. The older students use the library's reference materials in conjunction with research and report writing.

Community Outreach

The students at St. Martin's contribute a great deal in service to the Annapolis community. Our outreach programs include weekly food donations to the Lutheran Mission Society and the Lighthouse Shelter. Senior citizens of the Church join us for our annual Thanksgiving Feast, and during the holidays our families contribute food and gifts through social services and to the homeless.

Middle School Extra-Curricular Programs

girls playing field hockeyCo-ed soccer, boys' and girl's basketball and lacrosse, and field hockey are offered to Middle School students who whish to participate. A performing arts program, which includes drama, singing and dance, has been added to our school activities. Our student yearbook club produces an annual yearbook, and students may attend dances held during the year.

Extended Day Program

The Extended Day Program is open to St. Martin's students before and after school. Students who participate must be registered in the program. Students are divided into groups by grade level in the afternoon session.

Transportation

Transportation is the responsibility of the parent. Opportunity for possible car-pooling is provided through the School Directory which is distributed at the beginning of the school year.
