Have you heard that one needs to have a musical background and an extraordinary voice to sing in a choir? It's a myth! A beautiful voice is a gift, and one that can be developed with time and practice. A choir is a place for those with developed musical talent, but it is also a place for beginners and newcomers to learn to sing and to develop their talent. The choir director is there to teach and to guide. Singing with the choir is a beautiful extension of worship, and a true gift of yourself to others. So, don't be shy, give it a try! If interested, call Donna Ervin at the church office, or stop by at one of the practice sessions. Chancel ChoirThe Chancel Choir sings regularly at Sunday services from September through June. The Choir is broken into two groups - one that sings at the 8:30 service and the other at the 11:00 service. There is a practice session in the music room every Thursday night from 7:00 until 9:00 and one half-hour before every service. If interested, come to one of the Thursday practice sessions, or call Donna Ervin at the church office. Retiree ChoirThe Retiree Choir is an extension of the Retirees Fellowship Group that meets the second and third Tuesdays of each month from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. to practice. The Choir usually sings several times during the year at Sunday services and at special services, such as Christmas Eve. All are welcome. Bell RingersSt. Martin's Bell Ringers is an advanced ringing group that rings several times a year during worship, at festivals, and occasionally out in the community. Directed by Donna Ervin, Bell Ringers rehearse every Tuesday from 6:30 until 7:45 p.m. If interested, call Donna Ervin at the church office. InstrumentalistsIn addition to the choirs and bell ringers, anyone having the ability to play a musical instrument is encouraged to share their talent with the congregation. The Music Ministry keeps an updated list of all members (friends and guests) who have the ability and interest to play an instrument. From this, instrumental ensembles are put together. If this is of interest, please contact Donna Ervin at the church office and let her know of your interest and talents. Beginning Bell RingersIn the fall, classes are held for both adults and youth who are interested in learning to ring bells. These six week sessions usually meet on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Check with Donna Ervin for more information. |
