The Flying Quilters at St. Martin's was established in the 1970's to provide mission quilts for Lutheran World Relief which began shipping quilts to refugees at the end of World War II made from old clothes and blankets (www.lwr.org/parish/quilts/asp). Holiday Sharing PDF Print E-mail

St. Martin's participates in the "Holiday Sharing" program run by the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services. Through this program, St. Martin's volunteers provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and gifts to the needy in the Annapolis area.

As the holidays approach, notices will appear in the Sunday Bulletin and Tabletalk calling for help and volunteers. We encourage you to lend a hand, if you do not already do so. At Thanksgiving, St. Martin's takes on a number of needy families to provide groceries for their holiday dinner. Members are asked to assist with shopping and delivery. Similarly, at Christmas, St. Martin's takes on a number of needy families and supplies both groceries and Christmas gifts for the children and family members. St. Martin's members are called to help with gifts and groceries and delivery of the items to the needy families.

If you are interested in learning more about this program or in helping to organize St. Martin's involvement, contact the Holiday Sharing Leaders.

Homebound Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Through this ministry, pastors helped by volunteers reach out and visit those who are sick or homebound. If you are ill, for example, the pastors will be pleased to arrange for you to receive communion in your home, long-term care facility, or hospital. Part of the ministry to the homebound is the audio tape ministry. Weekly worship services are taped and mailed, with the service bulletin to those homebound who request the tapes. Weekly bulletins are also mailed from the church office to homebound who request them. For other services to St. Martin's homebound, see information on the Caring Ministry.

St. Martin's contributes volunteers, financial support, and groceries and personal-care items on a regular basis. Your help is greatly appreciated and serves a real and present need to the homeless and hungry.

Lighthouse Shelter PDF Print E-mail

Picture of pumpkins with St. Martin's Church in the background.St. Martin's strongly supports the Annapolis Area Ministries Light House Shelter program for the homeless and hungry. The Light House Shelter, located on West Street in Annapolis, provides beds at night for the homeless, financial assistance, a food pantry, and a health clinic for those in need in the area.

The Light House Shelter needs a continuous commitment of volunteers and support from all members of the congregation. One way to contribute is to bring in grocery bags of food and personal care items such as soap and shampoo and leave them in the Narthex area. Another way to volunteer is to offer to prepare a meal at the shelter or to deliver bags of groceries from the Narthex to the shelter.

Volunteers may also help staff the Light House office on weekends in July for a four-hour shift.
